Be it
economy downturn or the sixth pay commission s magic - 12% of the topnotch
IITians got recruited in the Defence Research and Development Organization
(DRDO) this year. The organization hires around 500 scientists every year for
its more than 50 laboratories through campus placement and common entrance
test. The DRDO also offers the ROSSA scheme. Fresher scientists who hold PhD
are eligible for scholastic aptitude scheme.

The salary
packages and promotion schemes- after the sixth Pay Commission, were more
streamlined and so was the career growth. The scientists are no longer wait for
vacancies to get promotions. In addition, the allotment for awards for the
scientists has increased to Rs 2 crore annually, doubling the allotment done in
the previous year- said DRDO s HR official.

DRDO
usually extends recruitment drive to nearly 40 IITs, central universities and
others affiliated institutes. However due to the current economy downturn,
IITians are apparently not preferring private sector jobs. The organization
also recruits NRIs, and those from engineering R&D areas. According to the
officials, nearly 20 scientists are expected to be rejoin as they left for
lucrative private jobs.
