In a bid to align with changing market realities and emerging new opportunities, IT biggies like Infosys and Wipro are ramping up with significant changes in their top leadership teams. Soon after Wipro reshuffled its management team, Infosys has also gone ahead and done a major expansion in its Executive Council (EC).

Infosys has inducted 12 new members in its EC, there by almost doubling the strength of the decision-making body. The Executive Council, which had only 16 members so far, will now have 30 members. The company says that this change has been brought about to provide greater focus to new growth areas. In the new arrangement, the business unit and subsidiary heads of emerging businesses have also been made part of the EC.

The new EC members include Dheeshjith V. G. (Senior VP, Growth Market Unit), Eric Paternoster (CEO, Infosys Public Services), Ganesh T. Gopalakrishnan (Senior VP, Information Systems) Gautam Thakkar (CEO and MD, Infosys BPO) , Jackie Korhonen (Country Head Australia and New Zealand), Manish Tandon (Senior VP, Life Sciences division), Muralikrishna K (Senior VP, Computer and Communications Division), Ravi Kumar S (Senior VP Insurance), Ronald Hafner (CEO, Lodestone), Sanjay Jalona (Manufacturing Head), Subrahmanyam Goparaju (Senior VP  Infosys Labs) and Haragopal Mangipudi (Senior VP, Finacle).

It may be noted that Infosys recently had several exits at the senior level, the prominent among them being board member Ashok Vemuri and Sudhir Chaturvedi, who headed financial services for the American operations. The recent changes, which have been done to strengthen the company’s focus in certain strategic areas, might also act as an incentive to control senior level exits.

Earlier this month, Wipro had also announced major changes in the management team. Senior Vice President Shaji Farooq was appointed as the Global Head of its Banking, Finance Services and Insurance (BFSI) unit, while Senior Vice President Soumitro Ghosh was made head of Wipro Infotech for the India and Middle East business. G K Prasanna was appointed Senior Vice President & Global Head for Global Infrastructure Services (GIS) in addition to his current role as SVP & Global Head for Product Engineering Solutions (PES), while Jeffrey (Jeff) Heenan Jalil was given the position of Vice President & Global Head of Advanced Technologies.

Wipro also said earlier that the management reshuffling was done in accordance with the current market situation and emerging growth areas. Wipro CEO T K Kurien said, “Our leadership team has spent considerable time reviewing market opportunities, and sharply defining the focus areas that would fuel our growth ambition. The exercise reaffirmed our conviction in our chosen strategy.  We are committed to better aligning our internal organization with our clients’ needs and to make investments in driving predictability and automation in our delivery.”

The quarterly results announced recently are already pointing to signs of recovery in the IT industry. With major changes and realignment at the top level, these companies surely seem serious about bringing their mojo back!
