The Government of India has launched Busindia.com, an integrated bus ticket portal through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with Radiant Info Systems. Touted as India’s first integrated national transport portal, Busindia.com is designed to bring together bus transport operators across the country under a single window, thus facilitating passengers to plan their bus travel across Indian cities seamlessly. BusIndia.com enables passengers to do trip booking and hotel booking, providing a full itinerary experience, according to a company statement.

Radiant Info Systems, is also credited with the launch of India’s first online bus ticket reservation system in 2006 for Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). BusIndia.com has already integrated 16 transport corporations from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Odisha, Meghalaya and Gujarat in Phase I. The  will see the next phase will see the inclusion of transport corporations from Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Goa, Puducherry and Goa along with other state-owned transport corporations.

The portal offers bus and hotel bookings. Like other popular bus ticketing sites, customers can make one way, round trip and multiple trips bookings on the site through multiple payment modes.

A report in The Hindu Business Line states that BusIndia.com is looking to raise over Rs 200 Crore from private equity funds and the portal is also looking at adding flight tickets soon.

The online bus ticketing market had come to the limelight with RedBus’ acquisition of ibibo. Some believe online bus ticketing in India – which had always been a fragmented segment - still has a long way to go. Nevertheless, experts say these are small steps that can lead to greater success stories if implemented strategically.

Venu Myneni, co-founder, chairman and CEO of Radiant Info however is very optimistic. He states that with bus services in India connecting to remote locations within the country, this service will now be useful to anyone in India and abroad to easily plan their travel within the country. “We have taken bus travel in India to a different level and are proud to have redefined the bus ticket booking in India. With plans to integrate this with the IRCTC portal and taxi booking, it will certainly create an integrated travel experience in India,” he says.
