Marico, a leading Indian FMCG, is upgrading its planning and supply network systems on servers powered by Intel Itanium 2 processors with 3MB L3 cache.

This deployment is expected to significantly enhance the efficiency and responsiveness of all processes along its entire supply chain, thus improving and facilitating real-time decision making for demand and supply forecast and planning activities.

The architecture comprises of three Intel Itanium 2-based HP rx5670 4- way servers, running mySAP SCM application.

Initial implementation of the solution will begin with 3 servers populated with six Intel Itanium 2 processors. It will be gradually scaled up based on the growth requirements.

Vinit Thakur, IT Head, Marico, said, “Information Technology is becoming increasingly important to the FMCG industry. Widespread supply chain network of manufacturing locations on one hand, and dealers and retailers on the other, makes timely availability of real time information very crucial for planning and decision-making. This is exactly why we needed to integrate and hone our business practices.”

According to Thakur, “HP, SAP and Intel Itanium 2 processing power are an extremely effective combination providing a supply chain solution at the best price per performance ratio currently available.”

Pallab Talukdar, director business critical servers, HP India, said, “HP Servers based on the Intel architecture allow customers to quickly and easily adapt to their ever-changing environments, and maximize business and operational efficiency, while providing the lowest overall total cost of computing.”
