With a long-term goal of meeting the future IT needs of its expanding business, Mumbai based Polychem Ltd., has recently completed the migration and integration of its legacy Foxpro/VB based applications to the .Net platform.

Speaking to CXOtoday, Arvind Phatak, IT-head, Polychem Ltd., said, “We are gradually modifying our IT infrastructure to meet future needs. Currently, we have just completed migration and integration of our Foxpro/VB based applications onto .Net /Access platform.” According to Phatak, the primary objective of this initiative was to get a uniform view of the company’s key business processes.

The integrated application consists of invoicing, inventory, finance and accounts, payroll etc. Plans are afoot to roll out these applications to the company’s locations in Delhi and Chennai for gathering sales and customer information. Phatak informed that once the business diversion plan is structured and finalised, perhaps within a year, the company would start scouting for an integrated ERP.

Phatak waxed eloquent on the support he receives from his top management on the IT initiatives. He says, “The top management of my company is very supportive as far as taking up and executing IT initiatives are concerned. In this sense they lend huge support and confidence to the IT team.”

On the hardware front the applications and the database (MS Access) are hosted on Compaq servers with Novell Netware / Windows NT operating systems.

Incorporated in 1955, Polychem Ltd., manufactures polystyrene, styrene monomer, and industrial alcohol.
