For better customeroriented servicesIn a bid to improve operational efficiency in a cost effective and secure way, Pondicherry Co-operative Urban Bank recently selected IBM SmartCloud for its Core Banking Solution (CBS). The new deployment is expected to help the bank provide better customer-oriented services in a robust IT environment.

As part of the implementation plan, Pondicherry Bank will deploy shared private cloud infrastructure services as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) from the vendor. This shared private Cloud will be implemented from an IBM data center in Bangalore.

“The implementation will help us add new customer services and also centralise mission-critical operations such as real-time transaction processing in six branches across Pondicherry,” said R Muralidharan, IT Administrator at the Pondicherry Co-operative Urban Bank. He added that the cloud solution will help us offer enhanced financial solutions to its customers including Internet banking, online money transfer, ATM Services and mobile banking.

Muralidharan believes that as cooperative banks in India are constantly faced with newer regulations challenges, they are expected to strengthen their focus on IT-related compliance so that they can effectively compete with other private or nationalised banks and serve customers in a proactive manner. “The deployment of Core Banking Solution on IBM SmartCloud, will enable us to operate from a single location at greater efficiency,” he added.

InfrasoftTech has been the selected implementation partner right from inception. “Cloud-based CBS will change the landscape of smaller banks in India. We are offering our OMNIEnterprise CBS on the reliable, scalable and robust IT infrastructure. This implementation will enable Pondicherry Bank to offer banking services across multiple channels and also enable them to enhance risk management and compliance efficiencies.”

KS Raghunandan, Director, Integrated Technology Services, Global Technology Services, IBM India/South Asia informed that with cooperative banks scaling their IT infrastructure to improve operational efficiency for consistent and cost effective services, IBM is providing the Cloud-based infrastructure to host the CBS. He informed that this is IBM’s third win in the co-operative bank sector for cloud computing. The other two SmartCloud deployments include Nawanagar Co-operative Bank Ltd. in Gujarat and one for Sree Charan Souharda Co-operative Bank Ltd. in Bangalore.
