Geodesic, a provider of mobile and desktop solutions for instant messaging, VoIP and Internet radio, recently announced it has closed a licensing deal with Universal Microelectronics (UMEC) a Taiwan-based manufacturer of magnetic components, power supplies, telecommunication products, and OEM assemblies, to embed its Mundu messenger and Mundu radio into UMEC’s Android tablets. After this development, the company’s IM and radio will run on UMEC’s Freescale IMX-based and Nvidia Tegra- based platforms, and will have capabilities including SMS and an integrated contact list aggregator.
“By embedding Geodesic’s user-friendly Mundu IM and Mundu Radio into tablets, UMEC ensures users have uninterrupted and unfettered access to their network of music, friends, and messaging for an excellent overall experience,” remarked George Hwang, VP, UMEC.
According to the company, UMEC’s full UCC (unified communication and collaboration) solution, will integrate Mundu applications with its video phone. In addition to sending SMSs, this solution will enable the user to conduct online text chatting, voice chatting, and video chatting; and share Internet video and audio programs, files and photos with friends, without leaving the single user interface.
“This deal expands Geodesic’s reach to more devices, and more geographies, enabling consumers worldwide to easily connect, communicate and collaborate in daily life,” commented Arvind Venkateswaran, SVP, worldwide business development, Geodesic.
Geodesic informed that its mobile IM solution combines IM services, including Yahoo!, AOL, MSN, ICQ and Google Talk, with collaboration across mobile, Web and desktop platforms, while the messenger supports web browsers, including IE, Mozilla Firefox and Safari and, in addition to interoperating with consumer IM services, it integrates with Jabber for enterprise IM.
