To improve the overall efficiency of its order-purchase system with vendors, Usha International Ltd. (UIL), the marketing arm of the Siddharth Shriram Group, is planning to connect its vendors and business partners on an extranet.

For the exercise, UIL has appointed Hyderabad-based CRM solution provider Easy Commerce for implementing its Java-based software application, the Easy Commerce Suite. The project spend has been pegged at around Rs 35 lakh.

The implementation will extend the advantage of the company’s existing ERP to its business partners.

Pradyumna Poddar, senior general manager, UIL, said, “The idea is to extend the advantage of our automated business processes to our vendors as well, and increase the work efficiency. The implementation will also help in better communication and create transparency between UIL, its business partners and vendor.”

Poddar expects the new application - once integrated with the company’s existing ERP implementation - to simplify the purchase order process in terms of knowing the status of order, delivery, payment, etc.

Currently UIL’s solution provider is working on customizing the existing suite to fit into its requirement. The customization project that starts this month is expected to be completed by June this year.

According to Poddar, the first phase of vendor integration to the application should be completed by October. “I hope to involve our leading vendors to use the application from day one. We are also developing a user manual for them and will provide training as well,” added Poddar.
