Via and Simmtronics unveils range of green computing products
Via Technologies (TPE:2388), a provider of power efficient x86 processor platforms, and Simmtronics Semiconductors, today launched a line of Green computing products, including the sub-10K rupee SIMM PC and a wide range of power-efficient VIA pc-1 mainboards integrating energy-saving technologies.
“The global technology market is witnessing a growing race among manufacturers to introduce the lowest carbon emission and most environmentally friendly products in order to enable their customers to become a part of a healthy and green society tomorrow. Simmtronics is taking aggressive steps to accelerate this trend by introducing a full range of VIA enabled Green PC systems and mainboards in India,” commented Indrajit Sabharwal, MD, Simmtronics Semiconductors.
Under the terms of an agreement, Simmtronics will assemble the motherboards in its manufacturing facility in Roorkee, Uttaranchal, India. In addition to India, it will also distribute the products through its channel partners in a total of 15 other countries, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Dubai, UAE, Turkey, Iraq, Algeria, and Ghana.
“The introduction of these products together with Simmtronics marks an important first step in our long-term plans for developing our presence in India and providing platforms that can bring the benefits of PCs to the next one billion users,” remarked Richard Brown, VP, international marketing, Via Technologies.
As informed by the company, slim-sized system SIMM PC features a VIA C7-D 1.6GHz processor, 512MB RAM, and 250 GB HDD with a 15.6” LCD monitor with a 15.6” LCD monitor. It is green PC and will be available at a highly affordable sub-10K price point. Other features include the Ubuntu O/S plus a keyboard and optical mouse.
The range also includes a selection of energy-efficient green motherboards featuring a choice of Via C7 and Via Nano processors, including the entry-level PC2000E+ green motherboard and the mainstream PC3000E+ and PC3500N green platforms.
Further it plans to introduce the forthcoming Via VX900E green motherboard later on in the first quarter. All Via mainboards offered by Simmtronics come with a three-year warranty and local RMA support provided through nearly twenty authorized Simmtronics support centres nation-wide.
