Vikatan Deploys Woodwing's Editorial Solution
The Chennai based Vikatan publishing group has chosen Woodwing’s SCE (smart connection Enterprise) solution– a highly scalable editorial workflow solution for its flagship magazine– Ananda Vikatan.
The Vikatan Group, one of India’s largest magazine publishing companies, has selected WoodWing Software’s Smart Connection Enterprise for supporting its editorial operations. The Chennai based Vikatan group is the first publishing house from India to deploy the SCE solution.
The solution serves complex workflows and environments, where searching files and/or the content of a story or specific keywords or metadata is required. It comes standard with support for every common SQL database including MySQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and Sybase.
In an exclusive to CXOtoday, Venkatesh K. M., deputy manager-information technology, said, “We were looking for a software solution that was robust and fairly stable to begin with. The main attraction for us was the fact that it is an open software.”
Speaking further he said, “We did try a few other solutions before we came across Wodwing SCE. We had been looking for an appropriate solution for over a year. Prior to deploying the SCE we used Adobe’s Version Cue software. It was called Creative Workflow Management Software. However, it wasn’t that stable and meant primarily for small workgroups.”
The server runs on many different operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and Solaris. SCE relies on a three-tier architecture to ensure scalability and flexibility, with all business logic centralized on the application server.
According to Venkatesh, the solution has been deployed across ten users and only for Anand Vikatan, the group’s flagship magazine.
Said Erik Schut, president of WoodWing Software, “The product has been in the market for a little over a year, and we’ve already sold 100 systems. The fact that we’ve now expanded into India shows that around the world, publications of all sizes are taking note of the versatility of Smart Connection Enterprise.”
Woodwing Software, a Netherlands based software company offers solutions, productivity tools and plug-ins that make publishing with these programs faster and easier.
