Wipro completes implementation of ESIC Project Panchdeep
E-governance solution to enable automated healthcare services to over 60 million beneficiaries spread across the country.
IT and business transformation services provider Wipro Infotech said that it has successfully implemented the Rs.1,182 crore Employees’ State Insurance Corporation’s (ESIC) Project Panchdeep.
Project Panchdeep is aimed at improving the healthcare services provided to ESIC’s over six crore beneficiaries, employers and insured people, spread across the country by providing online facilities to for registration, payment of premiums and disbursement of cash benefits.
Project Panchdeep is India’s first and largest social security program which comprises of five important components namely Pehchan, Milap, Pashan, Dhanwantri and Pragati.
“We are happy that all five components of Project Panchdeep have been successfully implemented. With this implementation, ESIC stakeholders can avail anytime, anywhere healthcare services from across 2000 plus ESIC locations spread across the country,” said Dr C S Kedar, IAS, Director General, Employees’ State Insurance Corporation.
Wipro has designed and developed a comprehensive suite of applications which includes Hospital Information System, Insurance and ERP modules. It has set up ta central data centre in Delhi and Disaster Recovery centre in Hyderabad. The company has installed centralized hardware such as servers, storage, security and network devices ensuring an integrated and a secured information retrieval system spread over 2000 locations pan India.
“Our endeavor has been to ensure that every ESIC beneficiary can avail medical services through Pehchan Cards and obtain their claims faster and in a hassle-free manner, anytime, anywhere. For this purpose over 900 Pehchan Camps are running all across India. We are happy to know that this IT initiative has been well received by all stakeholders of ESIC,” said Anand Sankaran, Senior Vice President and Business Head-India, Middle East and Africa.
Wipro said that the project has brought in complete transparency in the system, and has empowered the stakeholders. Each day close to 75 thousand people are benefiting from the project.
Employers can now file Monthly Contribution, Generate TICs and register new Employers, etc., from anywhere and anytime. Insured people can now get Medical benefits through Pehchan card anywhere across ESIC locations.
The project includes other modules like HR, Finance and General Administration programs all of which have been rolled out at all ESIC locations pan India. While a few modules were rolled out in May 2010, most of the modules were operational by December 2010.
In January 2011, the module relating to Monthly Contribution by Employers started functioning across the country and by November 2011 the Online payment of Monthly Contribution through Internet Banking using State Bank of India portal and payment gateway was available across the country.
ESIC is a statutory corporation, under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India (GoI), and is the implementing agency of a pioneering, Social Security Scheme in India. The ambitious project was mandated with a focus on creating a medicare backbone for the marginalised sections of society.
Wipro had bagged project in March, 2009, under a competitive bidding tender that witnessed participation from peers like TCS and Infosys.
