Digital Workplaces Will Enhance Productivity, Says Zinnov

With the decreasing gap between personal and professional lives, organizations are creating a symbiotic and technologically-advanced environment that will help them define how talent is engaged, empowered, and enabled. Tracking the evolution of technology in enterprises, Zinnov, a global management consulting firm, recently conducted a study in order to understand how to make Digital workplace initiatives a success and states if implemented well, digital workplaces will surely enhance productivity.

As quoted in Economic Times, the report called “Creating a Digital Workplace,” defined digital workspaces as the application of new age technology to people, process, and spaces to enable a truly ‘smart, empowered and connected enterprise.’ The evolution of an enterprise workplace can be traced from the traditional physical workplaces to internet-enabled to digital, Zinnov said in its report.

The report listed the technologies that a truly digital workplace should comprise of, in order to assist employees performing their roles well. The technologies ranged from HR applications and core business applications to supplementary applications such as e-mail, instant messaging, enterprise social media tools, intranets and portals. Technology is also being effectively used as a tool to manage the expectations and growth of a multi-generational workforce, the report added.

The study emphasized on the importance of following input factors in making digital workplace initiatives a success –

a) Presence of a strong technology foundation with new age technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Internet of Things (IoT), AR/VR, etc.;

b) Utilization of a combination of conventional and new age digital tools such as bots, sensors, conversational UI, ERP, employee service platforms, personnel analytics, etc.;

c) Availability of a multitude of use cases across the human resource value chain from talent – gamified employee wellness management, personalized social recruitment, to Infrastructure – digital building management system, 3D holographic telepresence, to governance – intelligent risk management, digital culture management, to IT & Operations – smart facility management, communication infrastructure management, etc.

The combined implementation of the above shared factors can lead to increased employee experience, business excellence, innovation, compliance, and better efficiencies across the organization.

The study revealed with over 950 R&D centers, India is not only an R&D powerhouse, but is also soon going to be known as the largest global talent hub as well. With an impressive some 5200 startups in 2017, India has a vibrant tech start-up ecosystem, which is a significant driver of the innovation engine in the country. This convergence puts India at a unique advantage to drive ahead digital workplace initiatives.
