Festive season to create 25% more jobs this year as compared to last year says NLB Services

  • Demand for temporary and gig roles are expected to be up by 20-25% in Telecom, Retail, E-Commerce, Logistics & Supply Chain, Travel & Hospitality, and BFSI sector in September-December 2023
  • Compared to last year, there is 25% increase in demand expected for gig & temp profiles across sectors for October – December 2023 duration

As the upcoming festive season approaches, the Telecom, Retail, E-Commerce, Logistics & Supply Chain, Travel & Hospitality, and BFSI sectors are poised for a notable uptick in Temporary and Gig positions. This surge aims to cater to the expected rise in seasonal spending, even in the face of prevailing inflation.

This year’s demand is anticipated to grow by approximately 25% in comparison to the previous year, showcasing a positive perspective on meeting the expanding needs of consumers. Last year, over 5 Lakhs temporary and gig jobs were created throughout the festive and wedding season (spanning from October to December). We may see over 6 lakhs job opportunities this year from October to December.

Some of the key roles that are in demand are Customer relationship executives, Business Development Executives, Retail Sales Executives, Customer Experience executives, Digital Marketing Specialists, Warehouse Operation Executives, Logistics & Distribution Executives, Guest Relations Executives, and Accounting Specialists etc. 

The Telecom industry foresees addition of approximately 12% gig positions, while the Retail sector is projected to add additional 25%, E-Commerce 30%, and BFSI 20% such roles. The primary demand emanates from tier-1 cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Pune as well as from tier-2 and tier-3 cities such as Lucknow, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Amritsar, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam, Raipur, Indore, Jamshedpur, Coimbatore and Gwalior.

In previous years, cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Pune were the primary drivers of gig and positions, yet over the last 3-4 years, markets like Chandigarh, Jaipur, Amritsar, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam, Raipur, Indore, and Gwalior have also observed a substantial rise in available positions for these temporary and gig roles.

Commenting on the projected surge in demand, Sachin Alug, CEO of NLB Services said, “As consumer discretionary spending sees an uptick alongside the approaching festive and wedding season, various industries will encounter a heightened requirement for additional workforce. The drive to enhance efficiency and productivity across these sectors underscores an anticipated 25% increase in the demand for gig and temporary roles, driven by the growing purchase demands. In the span of just July to August, we have already observed more than 70,000 job openings within these sectors, and we foresee this trend persisting until December 2023.

It is expected that the earnings for temporary workers in these roles will grow around 10-12% as compared to last year.

Average salary packages for the roles mentioned above in Tier II cities range between INR 25,000- 40,000 per month. Similarly, in Tier II cities, it ranges between INR 18,000- 30,000 depending upon the profile. This upward trend reflects the industry’s commitment to rewarding gig and temp workers while tapping into the increased demand during the festive season.
