CAST helps Indian Tech Services Major, LTI MindTree to Overcome Pandemic- induced Business Turbulence

CAST Solutions enabled LTI MindTree to improve productivity of business-critical applications by 15% & reduce knowledge transition time by 30%

CAST has helped global technology services major LTI MindTree to improve productivity of business-critical applications by nearly 15% during the pandemic period when remote working initially created disruption in work flows.

LTI MindTree, a subsidiary of Indian multinational conglomerate firm LTI MindTree, has cut down both the defect density and rework efforts by 30-40% since adopting CAST’s interactive architectural blueprint solution. The BSE100 listed company has also saved time on knowledge transition by 20-30%.

CAST, which works with the likes of global majors such as Accenture, IBM, BCG, Deloitte, Well Fargo, and more, helped LTI MindTree developers to work with great precision, enabling them to focus on software development and be more productive during the pandemic period.

Talking about the business impact of the collaboration, LTI MindTree COO Nachiket Deshpande said: “Anchoring all its applications onto the self-navigation capabilities of CAST Imaging, LTI MindTree has integrated CAST technology during the transition of two critical projects, which began at a time our workforce worked remotely during the pandemic. The company has measured almost a 50% reduction in the application transition time by doing so.”

He further added: “Modernization and cloud enablement of core systems are essential elements of the digital journey of enterprises. CAST empowers enterprises with a fact-based streamlined approach for rapid portfolio analysis and accurate architecture blueprints, thus delivering smarter, faster and safer modernization journeys. The partnership between CAST and LTI MindTree enables double-digit productivity improvement through quicker application discovery and reduced rework in application service delivery.”

CAST helped LTI MindTree to migrate complex custom-built software to the Cloud during a very challenging economic environment, when businesses were struggling for productivity during remote transition.

A major focus area for organizations these days, application modernization involves transitioning from existing and/or traditional software functionalities, allowing them to boost operational efficiency and go to market faster by updating business processes, reducing maintenance costs, and enhancing the overall customer experience. But a majority of IT leaders face challenges while modernizing their apps, not knowing how to do it right and how to avoid the pitfalls.

To address challenges faced by organizations while migrating to cloud, CAST is helping with seamless transition, through its solutions, ensuring agility, safety, and resilience of applications. According to Valuates Reports, the global application modernization
services market is projected to reach USD 50440 million by 2028 from an estimated USD 21690 million in 2022, at a CAGR of 15.1 percent during 2023 and 2028.

During this collaboration, LTI MindTree embedded CAST architectural and structural quality insights into its LTI MindTree CANVAS platform. LTI MindTree Canvas is a modern engineering platform consisting of LTI MindTree solutions, Microsoft technologies and select third-party tools, that was built for IT professionals to collaborate seamlessly and deliver quality software at speed.

LTI MindTree is now using CAST MRI for Software for over 250 custom-built applications of more than 400 clients. Each application with multiple layers
and technologies represents 75+ million lines of code from legacy to modern technology stacks. Leveraging software intelligence, LTI MindTree has helped more than 400 clients accelerate their digital transformation by enabling their mobile, social, analytics, IoT and cloud journeys with operations in 31 countries.
Background/ Project Challenge
When LTI MindTree was transitioning two of its extensive projects, they were supposed to take over maintenance and support. The teams needed to discover, understand, and have knowledge of about a hundred applications to respond faster to the clients needs. But because of the global pandemic situation, all LTI MindTree development teams were spread across multiple locations working from home. Since the teams were unable to work together at the same place, they did not have a quick way to share knowledge and information.

About Cast Highlight & Imaging
CAST Highlight is able to analyze hundreds of applications in a week to identify the changes needed in the source code, the effort required, the most suitable cloud native services to use and the best migration path to take. CAST Imaging then automatically reverse-engineers the actual architecture into interactive application maps guiding architects and developers in navigating steps leading to modernization These include re-platforming, re-architecting, framework or database replacement, breaking monoliths into services.

Combating OSS risks
According to a Gartner study, over 70 percent of applications utilize open source components which introduces legal, security, and obsolescence risks. The growing adoption and usage of open source components and libraries poses new intellectual property, legal and security risks each day. Managing OSS legal compliance and security risks across all applications without disrupting development is a key proposition for CAST Highlight, becoming operational in weeks at a much lower cost. To combat risks, safety and compliance checks were implemented in the development life cycle using CAST Highlight for minimizing legal and security risks from open-source software (OSS). Post implementation, LTI MindTree teams completed 20+ open-source compliance checks in just a few days, besides scanning 8 million+ lines of code, identifying 400+ unique components with 1300+ unique vulnerabilities and over 10 components with license compliance issues.
While reducing OSS risk, components with strong copy-left license requirements or dual licenses were used in closed source products. Component updates are addressed every 4 sprints and reasonable false- positivity rates were realized along with finding technical debt.
