Interviews

Cybersecurity is no longer just about protecting against viruses, trojans, and spyware. There are framework of activities, Says Mr. Filip Cotfas, Channel Manager, CoSoSys in the interview

Q1. How big is the international DLP market right now, and what reasons are pushing these cutting-edge technologies?

Years ago, cybersecurity used to be a concern only for market players. Today, in the era of Digital Transformation, everyone is paying attention.

Dealing with cybersecurity is no longer just about protecting you against viruses, trojans, and spyware, as was done at the beginning of this century. There is a framework of activities, including maintaining compliance, enforcing a zero-trust policy, preventing ransomware attacks, not falling into well-focused phishing, not having your web applications riddled with vulnerabilities.

Many companies decided to implement a Data Loss Prevention solution either proactively or because they had a security incident recently. Companies need to use a Data Loss Prevention solution as part of their compliance as well. (BFSI, Pharma, Healthcare, IT, etc.)

Q2. How have Covid-19 and WFH affected the data security landscape? What kinds of security challenges do you observe in particular in India?

With many companies being forced to adopt work-from-home policies quickly, there are a number of challenges related to data protection and compliance with regulations.

In India the increasing number and frequency of recent data breaches in India have proven that organizations across all sectors are vulnerable to cyberattacks.

The reported breaches in the recent past are causing concern to both governments and businesses. India needs to strengthen not only the legal framework to handle cybersecurity cases, but it has to improve the protection of critical infrastructure and build offensive capabilities, as well as educate citizens about the safe use of digital assets.

Q3. Because the notion of data loss prevention is unfamiliar to the majority of Indian organizations, how do you intend to address this issue?

We noticed a big increase in security awareness over the past few years, and companies are now proactively looking for DLP solutions.

Over the past years, we made it our mission to educate companies on how DLP can help through webinars, articles, interviews, and social media.

Q4. What are the factors pushing DLP technology?

There are two main factors to be considered: security and compliance. Some companies fall under specific compliance, such as RBI Compliance, PCI DSS, HIPAA, etc., being mandated to deploy a DLP solution. Other companies want to fill the gap in their security stack, so they are looking to add a DLP solution.

Q5. What are your views on the Indian cybersecurity market in terms of technology?

The Indian market made huge progress over the past years, and most companies started implementing a strong technology stack. Organizations are getting educated on security matters, and they understand how different technologies work together and what is the role of each one.
