India Inc. Celebrates International Women’s Day 2022

  1. Shalini Nair, CTO & Co-founder of Ennoventure

”Technology continues to be a high growth sector across the world, and historically the sector has been dominated by men. However, this is slowly fading away as an increasing number of companies and organizations are hiring deserving women for STEM roles. With the right exposure and mentors, a sustainable ecosystem of skilled women workforce can be created within the industry.

At Ennoventure, we strive to create a workplace that supports a learning environment for women employees. As a global organization we have imbibed the principles of diversity, acknowledging the fact that business outcomes are best driven by a diverse workforce. Our wellbeing program empowers women leaders to  build mindfulness and generate ideas. If we truly follow the theme of #BreakTheBias, it is essential to make women employees feel equal at all levels.”

  1. Manjari Sharma, CPO & Co-founder of FreightFox

“As a woman and a multi-tasker, I often struggle with massive amounts of internal conflict about whether I am ticking all the boxes. Am I creating enough of an impact at work? Am I taking good enough care of my family? Am I paying attention to my own health? This often leads to moments of self-doubt, especially when I think about all the ‘said and unsaid’ expectations placed on me by my own self, my family, peers and the society at large.

Thankfully, I have always been able to overcome these, by falling back on my belief that it is ok to lean in on my support system in pursuit of what is truly important to me – i.e. leaving a mark both personally and professionally. It is okay to ask for help, and it is okay to not be a ‘superwoman’ who does it all alone.

In addition, there are certain ‘non-negotiable rituals’ that I have made a part of my day. Whether it is taking an hour off to focus on exercise or spending dedicated time every evening with my kids, I make sure I am fully present during each ritual. This makes it easier to be present in my professional and personal commitments as well.

It’s still a tough world out there for women, despite the progress we’ve made. It’s important to remember that these feelings of doubt are natural for women, and it’s only by acknowledging and working through them that we can help ourselves and others deal with them meaningfully. There is much we can do as women leaders to create an inclusive space at work – using gender-neutral pronouns, being sensitive to the needs and situations of other women colleagues, amplifying women’s voices to ensure that their opinions are heard, or even creating forums where such conversations can be had safely. This ensures open and focused dialogue that emphasises real change, not just for women but for the entire organisation.

My advice to all the awesome women out there is to stop measuring yourself on what others may say, think, or expect you to be. Take pride in your achievements and be unapologetic about chasing your dreams. There’s always a way forward!”

  1. Subhashini Ponappa, Head HR & Administration, 75F

“Considered as the most crucial social foundations, women, when empowered, bring positive changes to the table. Despite advances in technology and the popularity of feminism, women still do not hold an equal status in society. Women in this sector still struggle with underrepresentation as it is largely dominated by men. Gender inequality and a lack of professional prospects for women in the tech domain are particularly prevalent in the developing countries.

According to recent research by AnitaB.org in 2020, women make up 28.8 percent of the IT workforce, while Deloitte predicts global technology firms will have a 33 percent overall female presence in their workforces by 2022. We have a large number of female entrepreneurs and top-level female executives all around the world who have demonstrated that women can be just as successful as men. This International Women’s Day gives us another opportunity to honour the great achievements of women all around the world, as well as the constant and unrelenting pursuit of gender equality.

At 75F, we ensure a successful career advancement of every woman that has associated with us. We are proud of them and we look forward to having more women representation in our teams in the near future. We also help them upskill according to current trends and markets for a positive progression in their career path. This would help us encourage professional women and their talents, to create a culture known for providing them with equal opportunity and respect.”

  1. Bhavana Israni, Company Secretary and Head-Legal, SnapBizz

“On this women’s day, we express our gratitude towards women across the globe. Today women have proactively started taking an active role to demonstrate their abilities in different spheres throughout the world. It is incredibly empowering to be a part of an organization that recognises our strengths at the grass-roots level, and gives us the space to bring forth our own ideas and flourish. We have around 30% women of the total workforce associated with us, and we ensure that they are upskilled to the newest technology and trends so that they excel in their jobs wherever they go. At Snapbizz, we ensure women empowerment and growth by investing in training, mentoring, equality programs, and promotion into senior-level positions, which is essential to retain them for the long term. I am proud to be part of a company that is generating a large number of women entrepreneurs and strengthening the existing ones to adopt digital technologies and prosper in the community.”

  1. Aayur Kaul, Market Head, India, Skillshare

“Over the last decade, the edtech sector has made strides to address gender inequality by creating learning opportunities for women across the globe. However, there’s still more work to be done. The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is to #BreakTheBias and a crucial step towards meeting this goal is to equip women with knowledge and skills that they can leverage to acquire financial independence and focus on personal development. Online learning can act as a catalyst for creating more women leaders and building a world that is inclusive and diverse. At Skillshare, we celebrate differences and we honor the contribution of women in our workforce. Our platform as well, has thousands of women creators, teaching courses ranging from photography, illustration, to music and meditation, among many others. Industries, globally, could benefit from making conscious efforts towards embracing change and creating a safe space for women to grow and prosper in their careers. Women, when empowered, can become forces of positive and welcoming change.”

  1. Swarup Bose, Founder and CEO, Celcius

“There is a lack of diversity in India’s cold supply chain sector and the logistics industry overall. Conscious efforts towards building a diverse workforce could unlock the untapped potential of the industry and help us meet targets that would otherwise be far-fetched. As this year’s International Women’s Day theme rests on #BreakingTheBias, the industry needs to maximize its efforts towards empowering women venturing into the sector. The cold chain segment relies heavily on innovation and streamlined solutions, and with a wider range of perspectives and unique outlooks, the sector’s solutions to the country’s cold chain needs will only improve. At Celcius, we provide aspiring local transport entrepreneurs with financial and infrastructural support and we look forward to extending our support towards more women transporters in the future. The industry could use help from more women leaders in the space and it would be a welcome transition.”

  1. Ruchi Jain, Head of IT, Strawfit , Bourgeon Foods Inc and Anisha Jain, Head of Creative, Strawfit , Bourgeon Foods Inc

Indian women are playing an increasingly crucial role in businesses today. Women are educated, skilled and ambitious enough to have perfected the art of balancing their personal and professional lives. It is still a fact that career – oriented women face a number of barriers while discovering their potential and identity, but it is safe to say that the climate is more conducive now, than it was 15 or 20 years ago. All over the world, women are coming forward and working their way to reclaim their power and authority in every field, and Indian women, an inspiration to all, are second to none in this respect. It is an honor to be a part of this formidable force, and gives us great joy to wish everyone a wonderful Women’s Day.

  1. Petula Rajesh, HR Manager, Star Squared PR

“The PR industry is probably one of the few industries that staff a larger number of women as opposed to men. And we are proud to state that Star Squared PR is truly diverse with more than 90% of our staff being women. Despite our progress, this is still a difficult place for women in the business world. At the outset, let me point out that India is not alone; workplace imbalance is a worldwide issue that transcends geographies and culture. It’s unfortunately a societal mindset in my view. Having said that, India has long been viewed as a place where men go to work and women make all the necessary alterations or sacrifices in order to suit that one purpose. As a result, when it comes to workplace equality among the broader industries, the scales have tipped in favour of men. However, this is changing. As women leaders, we can do a lot to make the workplace more inclusive, such as using gender-neutral pronouns, being sensitive to the needs and situations of other female coworkers, amplifying women’s voices to ensure that their opinions are heard, and even creating forums where women’s needs can be discussed in a safe environment. This enables an open and focused conversation that emphasises actual change, not just for women but for the entire company and industry as a whole”
