Madhya Pradesh witnessed its first “Green Summit” which saw both public policy makers and industry leaders come together on the same platform to discuss, share ideas, and focus on innovation to build green future through sustainable energy and clean air.

The initiative called “Green Summit – Madhya Pradesh Edition”, was organized by APAC News Network, a community building, knowledge consulting, media organization focused on creating awareness on the importance of sustainable technology & innovation for governance, energy, healthcare, education, and other start-up sectors. With its core belief in making a clean, green and a pollution free environment for all, the Green Summit initiative is powered by THINK Gas, an environmentally conscious company targeted towards accelerating the penetration and availability of natural gas.

The event was inaugurated by, Shri P Narhari, IAS, Commissioner-Industries, Government of Madhya Pradesh; Shri Pankaj Bhutani, Joint Advisor (Commercial), Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board; Shri Chandra Mohan Thakur, IAS, Member Secretary, Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board.

Other notable dignitaries who participated and spoke in the event were; Shri R K Mehra, Secretary, Public Works Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh; Shri Avinash Lavania, IAS, District Collector, Bhopal and Chairman, Bhopal Smart City Limited;  Shri K V S Choudary, IAS, Commissioner, Bhopal Municipal Corporation; Smt Padmapriya Balakrishnan, IFS, Director, Van Vihar National Park, Bhopal;  Shri Hardip Singh Rai, CEO, THINK Gas and Shri Sandeep Trehan, President, Marketing & Business Development, THINK Gas.

Inaugurating the Green Summit – Madhya Pradesh Edition, Pankaj Bhutani, Joint Advisor (Commercial), Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board said, “Environment friendly and cheaper than fossil fuels – are the main reasons that we should move towards natural gas more. PNGRB is helping CGD businesses by providing industry friendly regulations and support.”

In a special address to the audience, P Narahari, IAS, Secretary & Commissioner, MSME Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh said, “Industry has a vital role to play in reducing greenhouse emissions especially in an aspirational society like ours. Interventions are taking place in switching to green energy, reducing greenhouse emissions among industries as we switch from an agricultural economy to a manufacturing economy.”

Chandra Mohan Thakur, IAS, Member Secretary, Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board addressed the audience, “While Delhi’s AQI often reaches above 300, Bhopal normally remains in the range of 90-110. Madhya Pradesh is establishing air quality monitoring systems at all prominent points to monitor data real time.”

R K Mehra, Secretary, Public Works Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh said, “We are moving towards international practices in new building construction which are energy efficient and enables light to come inside. The benefits of green buildings include improving the air quality, health and safety of the building inmates and general safety of the vicinity.”

 

Avinash Lavania, IAS, District Collector, Bhopal and Chairman, Bhopal Smart City Limited said, “We have planned lots of alternative lifestyle measures in Bhopal. We have procured 300 buses, EVS for Smart City staff, bicycle tracks on new roads, public vehicle sharing, even an e-waste conversion plant under Govardhan scheme. We are trying to ensure alternative ways of life along with alternative fuels for cleaner air and a greener city.”

 

K V S Choudary, IAS, Commissioner, Bhopal Municipal Corporation said, “BMC has collaborated with companies such as THINK Gas to facilitate CNG stations at various locations. CNG Buses are definitely a step towards green mobility.”

Padmapriya Balakrishnan, IFS, Director, Van Vihar National Park, Bhopal emphasizing on having green cover said, “Good health & wellbeing can be achieved through forest resources. As forest conservation plays an important role for sustainable development”.

Speaking at the Green Summit, Hardip Singh Rai, CEO, THINK Gas added, “The state can use the infrastructure that has been established by THINK Gas to attract new industries to Madhya Pradesh. Recognition of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) goals has become important for multinational companies. Availability of Natural Gas can be a game changer in attracting investments from these companies in setting up new plants in the state and fulfilling the governments’ idea of Make in India. Natural Gas can deliver economic, social and industrial developments that will benefit both the citizens and the state.”

Mr. Sandeep Trehan, President – Marketing and Business DevelopmentTHINK Gas showcased the changes that THINK Gas has brought about in the city. He said, “We have over 14,000 CNG vehicles on the road today, and we have a capacity to supply PNG to 25,000 customers easing the lives of the domestic customers, industries and commercial restaurants are opting for PNG, contributing towards a greener and cleaner tomorrow. We remain committed to our vision of bringing a change in the quality of lives of our consumers.”

Reiterating its focus on providing clean fuel to customers by promoting its Natural Gas Ecosystem through Sustainable Innovation in Madhya Pradesh, THINK Gas has invested around INR 500 crores in building an ecosystem, laying over 600 kms of pipelines and setting up a strong network of about 40 CNG stations in and around Bhopal. This elaborate infrastructure enables THINK Gas to reach out to more and more households and commercial customers in the region.
