  1. India’s renewable energy journey

The Indian renewable energy ecosystem is buzzing with action! Our recently updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC)  is all set to launch the country on a path of accelerating climate action and combating the consequences of climate change. A key goal in the updated NDC is India’s target to derive 50% of its energy from non fossil-fuel based energy resources by 2030.

To top it off, investments in the green energy space in India are at a record-high with $14.5 billion invested in renewable energy in 2021-22, an increase of 125% over that invested in FY 2020-21. For Indian businesses and investors alike, this simply means that the deadline to net-zero is closer than ever before and the time to take action is now!

  1. Clean energy becoming crucial for development

For the Indian renewable energy ecosystem to progress by leaps and bounds, investments are key! From developing more and more decentralized renewable energy like rooftop solar to modernizing and digitalizing the grid, investments are critical to drive a gigantic shift from fossil fuel-based energy sources to renewable energy sources among a population whose energy needs are only growing.

With regulatory frameworks like the BRSR (India’s own mandatory ESG reporting framework) keeping a check on concerns about greenwashing, proposing a green taxonomy,  and ensuring transparent and consistent sustainability data, investing in the green energy space is now more reliable than ever! On a personal level,  people are increasingly recognizing the economic, societal and environmental benefits of clean energy and are signing up for a greener power agenda –  influencing brands to make sustainability a priority.

  1. How Pyse is enabling individuals to benefit from investing in sustainable projects

With the goal of making sustainability accessible to the common investor, Pyse was created to make green assets a lucrative financial product for all retail investors. Pyse lets you diversify your investment portfolio with the help of market independent and alternative asset classes that make great returns. The platform offers retail investors options to invest in green energy, electric mobility and afforestation. An investor can start investing with a nominal amount of INR 5,000 thereby making it affordable for the larger audience. It only showcases pre-vetted, and risk assessed deals on the platform. The company has a policy of performing risk checks and listing only credible clients thereby minimizing credit risks for the investors. Pyse provides a means to earning 9% to 12% returns annually on investments while offsetting the carbon footprint of the investors.

  1. Roadmap for the future

India’s energy roadmap is promising, according to an IBEF report, Installed renewable power generation capacity has gained pace over the past few years, posting a CAGR of 15.92% between FY16-22. As India looks to meet its energy demand on its own, which is expected to reach 15,820 TWh by 2040, renewable energy is set to play an important role. With the constant support from the Government in the Green mission, India is receiving FDI as it expands its capacity of green hydrogen, electric vehicles and manufacturing of solar equipment. As per the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) estimates, by 2029-30, the share of renewable energy generation would increase from 18% to 44%, while that of thermal power is expected to reduce from 78% to 52%.
