Airtel Appoints Pradipt Kapoor as CIO

India’s second largest mobile operator Bharti Airtel Ltd has recently appointed Pradipt Kapoor as chief information officer (CIO).

Kapoor will succeed Harmeen Mehta who drove Airtel’s collaboration with Amazon Web Services, among others, under its enterprise segment. Mehta served as Bharti Airtel’s Group CIO for the past seven years has reportedly joined BT as Chief Digital and Innovation Officer starting March this year.

In his new role, Kapoor will drive Airtel’s overall Engineering strategy and be a key player in helping realize the company’s digital vision, the company said in a statement.

He will also be a part of the board of directors and report to managing director and chief executive Gopal Vittal.

The announcement comes at a time when the telecom major has been focusing on building cyber security and cloud businesses to generate revenue from its enterprise vertical.

Commenting on Kapoor’s appointment, Vittal said, “He is an accomplished engineering leader and believes in creating value by enabling technology that is focused on outcomes. I am confident his experience will add immense value to Airtel’s digital vision.

Prior to Airtel, Kapoor was the global head of products and solutions engineering at A.P. Moller-Maersk. He spent over a decade at Sita Inc. in the UK running products engineering.

Kapoor is passionate about harnessing the power of technology to enable and transform Business Models and deliver platforms, products and solutions that drive business value. He has also mentored globally distributed High Performance engineering teams, while relentlessly driving the adoption of best practices and processes to ensure the delivery of world-class products and solutions, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Kapoor is a fellow of the British Computer Society , received executive management certifications on Strategic Innovation and Technology Strategy from MIT and Stanford in the US.
