It looks like the elders were right. The smartphone does turn us a shade dumber. Else, why would Google launch a new device (Pixel 4a) and immediately thereafter announce not one, but two more that could seriously damage its wealth? (Read all about it here)
Well, we took up this discussion in our weekly banter show “Bits & Banter” and the only reason we could think of that fitted this new narrative was that… Sundar Pichai loves the Hera Pheri series featuring Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty (who’s he?) and Paresh Rawal. Why? Because he wants to present a script that has more twists and turns than all Hera Pheris put together.
Jokes apart, consider this – You launch a phone that is priced in the mid-segment but carries little extra features compared to some Chinese makes that are available for less. Then you claim that a flagship is on the way that’s packed to the brim with features and would be priced high. And just when you were chewing on this, comes news of another device that would be 5G enabled but may be priced closer to your wallet.
Of course, Google isn’t the only one leaving us breathless. The pace at which Mukesh Bhai Ambani is shopping – no we do not mean the family purchasing stuff in their digital supermarket called Reliance Jio Platforms but him looking to acquire new business – makes us say ‘Yeh Dil Maange No More’. The day is not far when Reliance could be setting up a digital mart where investors can shop for brands! Now! Beat that Mr. Jeff Bezos!
